After one season in West Lafayette, Purdue special teams/tight ends coach Mark Tommerdahl has left to become associate head coach/special teams coordinator/assistant offensive line coach for Texas Tech.
Earlier this offseason, there was speculation that Tommerdahl would join the staff of Texas Tech, as Tommerdahl had worked before under new Red Raiders coach Matt Wells as a special teams coordinator and running backs coach at Utah State in 2017.
Tommerdahl is the second assistant to leave Purdue this offseason, as Derrick Jackson departed recently to become defensive coordinator at Northern Illinois. Purdue announced the hiring of Greg Brown from Auburn to replace Jackson.
Difficult to know what direction Brohm will go in filling this post. Perhaps he will promote from within. Bottom line: Purdue will be on its third special teams coach in three seasons under Brohm, as special teams/tight ends coach Tony Levine left for personal reasons after the 2017 season.
Purdue begins spring practice on Monday.
