In one of the highlights of Tuesday morning's press conference, new Purdue athletic director Mike Bobinski talked about what sort of leader he will be and what style he will use. Below is his answer:

"I am more of a people, collaborative-type person, I am not a process guy. Which is really interesting because I think we have, as I understand the department here at Purdue, it is again tremendously well managed, so much structure and process in place, which is great. Honestly, I don't have to worry about bringing that with me. Because, that is not the thing that I like and enjoy most. You have to have process and you have to have structure but I much prefer working with people to get people engaged, craft a vision and get people energized and motivated around a higher level future.

"As the athletic director, it is my job on a day-in day-out basis to keep people headed in that direction, to focus on day-by-day improvement, to make sure that we are never just showing up at work to pass the time, but that we are trying to make sure we are moving things in a positive direction.

"So being engaged with our staff from top to bottom (is important). I like to know people, I enjoy meeting people, that will be a fun part (of the new job) for me to get acquainted and familiar with our staff at Purdue to be able help them to do their very best day-in and day-out. That is how I see my job is to enable them to have the greatest success possible. Whatever it takes for me to do that, is what I will do. It will be sort of adaptable to what I see and feel once I get in the office and get a sense of how the department works today, I will then determine specifically how we move forward. I am very flexible; I am not an old-school, top-down autocratic (manager). That is not my style. I work much more flatter, maybe a little more informal, but certainly professional."
