More: Jeff Brohm on Purdue signees
Purdue's secondary took a hit after the 2017 season finished, with starting cornerbacks Da'Wan Hunte and Josh Okonye exhausting their eligibility, leaving significant opportunities for 2018.
Perhaps Jordan Rucker, whose high school coach calls him every bit 6-foot, could get an early chance, based on his physicality and good ball skills.
Or, perhaps, Purdue uses Rucker's first year to pack on more muscle and weight and the 185-pounder slides more to a safety spot.
"He has a lot of versatility, already has some good strength to him," Jeff Brohm said of Rucker in December. "He definitely can compete for a spot the first year."
