Quick Count: Jersey scrimmage

The Boilermakers had their end-of-camp scrimmage on Saturday, a final evaluation that will go a long way toward determining Game 1 depth charts.

It was live, aside from quarterbacks, in Ross-Ade Stadium.

Following are observations:

• The offense retains the black jerseys after a 71-50 victory in Purdue's modified scoring system behind scoring plays from Domonique Young (two TDs), Terrance Landers (two), Richie Worship and Greg Phillips.

David Blough finished 11-of-14 for 188 yards with three touchdowns before taking an early seat. Yet Darrell Hazell wouldn't name a starting QB afterward.

David Yancey led Purdue with 45 yards on nine carries.

The defense had its moments as well, totaling 11 sacks. Safety Wes Cook had four tackles, all of a loss, with two sacks.

(Statistics are unofficial.)

• Key Boilermakers Ja'Whaun Bentley, Jake Replogle, Markell Jones and DeAngelo Yancey played only one series each.

• At least 30 minutes of the scrimmage was played in a heavy downpour, yet the lack of lightning allowed the Boilermakers — and fans — to stay outdoors. In total, Purdue practiced for about two-and-a-half hours, from early individual drills through the jersey scrimmage.

• Purdue seemed to come out of the scrimmage relatively unscathed, with probably the biggest concern defensive tackle Eddy Wilson. Near the end of the scrimmage, the sophomore hobbled to the sideline with what looked like a lower left leg injury. It didn't appear severe, however.

Also, linebacker Jimmy Herman was forced to miss a bit of time after taking a hit to a shoulder, but he later returned. And safety Jacob Thieneman might have a concussion after being knocked from the game while trying to make a tackle.
