Purdue started its only four-practice week of the spring Monday inside Mollenkopf. It's still yet to be outside this spring for any of its nine practices.
A quick look at what stood out Monday with more to come:
• Another potential starter didn't practice with C.J. Parker on the sidelines in street clothes. At least for a part of practice. His position coach, Anthony Poindexter, realized Parker was actually around his teammates, even though only watching, and flipped out a bit midway through practice because he said Parker has pneumonia. Purdue already was thin at safety, having moved Simeon Smiley there to get some reps with Jacob Thineman out. T.J. Jallow was back to practice Monday after missing Friday, at least.
• Jared Sparks likely will keep the yellow jersey, but the color the QBs wear didn't stop the redshirt freshman from taking some reps as a slot receiver. Again, that's a position Purdue has little depth after injuries have piled up, including a new (unknown) one to Anthony Mahoungou.
• Markell Jones and Brian Lankford-Johnson missed practice again Monday, meaning the Boilermakers had only four running backs: D.J. Knox, Richie Worship, Tario Fuller and Keyante Green. Those players are relishing the reps, though, as Fuller broke a long play down the right sideline Monday, and Green has had some up the gut.
