Analysis ($): First thoughts | Boilermaker Breakdown | Report Card

5 - Purdue's sack total against Illinois, the most against a Power 5 opponent since the Boilermakers sacked Notre Dame five times in a 20-17 loss on Sept. 8, 2012 at Notre Dame. Since 2005, the Boilermakers have logged five sacks or more 15 times, 11 against Power 5 opponents. Purdue's had one six sack game since 2005, the 2007 Motor City Bowl against Central Michigan. It's most recent (and only) seven sack performance was at IU in 2005. The Boilermakers last five sack performance was last year in a 24-14 win over Nevada.

1 - Jeff Brohm had four one possession losses in his first season at Western Kentucky (2014) and has had the same number in his first season at Purdue. Brohm was 4-5 in his first nine games at both schools.

82 - Conference games since Purdue has allowed fewer points than it did on Saturday against Illinois. Joe Tiller's 2007 team pasted Iowa 31-6 at home on Oct. 20, 2007. The last time Purdue held an opponent to 10 points or fewer was in Tiller's last game at Purdue, a 62-10 smackdown of Indiana on Nov. 22, 2008, 70 conference games ago.

250 - Yards given up by the Boilermaker defense against Illinois. It was the third time this season that Purdue has held an opponent at our under 250 yards. It has been since 2003 since the Boilermakers have accomplished the feat, when it did it four time.. Purdue also did it three times in 2002, with both the 2002 and '03 seasons directed by defensive coordinator Brock Spack.

17-17 - Northwestern in the red zone during its four game winning streak. The 'Cats rank 10th in the country in red zone efficiency (34-of-36 .944) in 2017 scoring 27 TDs with just seven field goals. Purdue ranks 19th overall with a percentage of .914, but has scored just 20 touchdowns in addition to 12 field goals in 35 trips to the red zone.

33 - Jersey number of Wisconsin's Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne. He and Northwestern running back Justin Jackson could set two records together...be the first Big Ten backs to rush for 1,000 yards four straight seasons and the only Boilermaker opponents to rush for 100 yards four straight seasons against Purdue. Jackson has averaged 130 yards per contest the past three seasons.

97.3 - Average yards relinquished by the Northwestern run defense the past seven games, after giving up and average of 187.5 in the first two weeks of the season. Northwestern has faced five of the top-100 running backs in the country in terms of yards per game this season (Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin; Saquon Barkley, Penn State; Ty Johnson, Maryland; Akrum Wadley, Iowa; LJ Scott, Michigan State). They averaged only 56.2 yards per game and just 3.55 yards per carry. None ran for more than 90 yards.

7 & 11 - Despite Jackson's success running the football, the Wildcats are four spots behind Purdue in rushing. Purdue is seventh in the conference averaging 159.3 yards per game, while Northwestern is 11th averaging 139.5.

11-1 - Jeff Brohm's record as head coach in the month of November. Fitzgerald's teams at Northwestern have been very good in November as well. In 11 seasons at NU, Fitzgerald has won 57 percent of his games (24-18), 10 percent higher than his overall winning percentage in Big Ten play (in any month).

3 - This will be the third night game Purdue has played in what is now called Ryan Field. The Boilermakers are unbeaten in Evanston after dark, winning 7-0 in 1935 in the first night game Purdue ever participated in (it was called Dyche Stadium then), and also a 20-17 upset of the nationally ranked (coaches poll) Wildcats in 2010.

77 - D.J. Knox's consecutive rushing attempts without a loss dating back to 2015. He sat out 2016 due to a knee injury, and his last negative yardage carry came in the third quarter of the 2015 game at Northwestern. He had 10 negative rushes in 108 carries in '15 and has 64 carries in 2017 without a loss.
