MILWAUKEE — Purdue got over its two-year hump Thursday night with an 80-70 win over Vermont in the NCAA Tournament.

• Caleb Swanigan doesn't want to talk much about it — he's been making himself mostly unavailable to the media lately, but this was a résumé game for him.

It's not often a player can get 16 points and 14 rebounds and say two other elements of his game were more impressive.

But Swanigan's passing in the game's final minutes controlled this game. Every big shot Purdue made, and there were several, originated with a Swanigan post touch. And the shot-blocking was impactful. You don't think of Swanigan necessarily as a rim protector, but he was playing volleyball with Vermont's shots.
