Purdue lands long-standing in-state target

Purdue struck again in Indianapolis Wednesday, as Lawrence Central defensive lineman Branson Deen accepted the Boilermaker coaching staff's offer.

"Coach (Jeff) Brohm is really trying to turn the program around and rebuild it with in-state guys," Deen said. "That really caught my eye the most.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder chose Purdue over Cincinnati.

Syracuse, Air Force and the majority of the MAC had also offered the Rivals, com three-star prospect, Purdue's second Indianapolis commitment, joining Ben Davis' Elijah Ball, and third from Indiana.

"They think I can make an impact right away," said Deen, recruited to play defensive end. "I can play stand-up defensive end, put my hand down or drop into coverage.

"And a lot of places, including Purdue, think they could use me (as a defensive tackle) because of my athleticism."

Deen unofficially visited Purdue on Saturday.

He's Purdue's 20th commitment for 2018.
