More: What McCollum's arrival means to the depth chart ($)
As expected, Western Kentucky linebacker T.J. McCollum will transfer to Purdue to play out his final season of college eligibility for Jeff Brohm, the school announced Monday.
The 6-foot-2, 240-pound outside linebacker began his college career at UAB prior to its short-lived cancellation of its program. He's played the past two seasons for Brohm and coordinator Nick Holt, who also is at Purdue, for Western Kentucky, for which he graduated in December.
McCollum, who was granted his release from Western Kentucky to transfer to any school not on the Hilltoppers' 2017 schedule, will be immediately eligible for Purdue, joining a linebacker group that returns established starters Ja'Whaun Bentley and Markus Bailey, as well as veteran Danny Ezechukwu.
Though limited by injury at times this past season - he missed the Boca Raton Bowl with an elbow injury for which he's undergone surgery - McCollum was the Hilltoppers' third-leading tackler, with 85 stops. The year prior, he led Western Kentucky with 106.
