Woodson, others to be celebrated at NFF Honors Dinner at Purdue

Even if his induction to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2016 was long overdue, Rod Woodson didn’t see it that way.

“I don’t tick like that,” the former Purdue All-American said during his visit to Purdue last fall. “A lot of student-athletes have played college football. For me, I just played at Purdue, tried to do my job, tried to do it to the best of my ability and had some great coaches with me while I was Purdue. If anyone wanted to think I was deserving of being in the Hall of Fame, then so be it. I don’t tout my own horn or pat my own back. My arms aren’t that long.”

“It’s just an honor. … I’m glad I did Purdue proud while I was here.”

Woodson will be honored again on Sunday, when he and four others are celebrated for their induction into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame during the local National Football Foundation Honors Dinner.

At the Joe Tiller Chapter dinner, the 13th year for the annual event, high school coaching legends Vince Burpo and Jim Davis, along with former Purdue players Bernie Flowers and Woodson will be honored. As will Otis Armstrong, who will be given his induction plague for 2015. The dinner, in this case a brunch, is at noon Sunday in the Purdue Memorial Union ballroom.

Tickets are on sale at the chapter’s website, NFFTillerChapter.org. Prices are $60 for public, $50 for members and $40 for students. VIP Reception tickets are $50 each for general public and $25 for NFF members. Table prices are 400 for general public, $320 for NFF chapter members and honorees’ families, and $280 for students.
