We're just over four weeks until kickoff, so the number of double player days will begin to grow. Today we feature a pair of freshmen, including one who is a very interesting late addition to the 2023 recruiting class.
Christian Womack - Fr.
Tomball, TX (Tomball HS)
6', 180 pounds
Running Back
2023 Projection: Possible redshirt
Womack was a bit under the radar and did not receive an offer to Purdue until March of this year. He was set to go to Blinn College, a JuCo in Texas, but after Lamar Conard reached out to him he received an offer to come up to Purdue.
He had a very accomplished career for Tomball as he led them tot he state semifinals in Texas last season. As a senior, he rushed for 2,111 yards on 297 carries with 26 touchdowns. That campaign was on the heels of a 1,369-yard and 21-touchdown season as a junior.
As far this year goes, Womack is a little down the depth chart with Devin Mockobee, Dylan Downing, and Tyrone Tracy holding down the top three spots, but he is a player to watch for the future.
Jaxon Mull - Fr. (RS)
Fort Wayne, IN (Culver HS)
5'11", 180 pounds
Defensive Back
2023 Projection: Reserve
Mull was on the roster last year as a walk-on that ended up redshirting. He was quite the athlete in high school at Culver Academy in Northern Indiana. He was a two-way player for football, generating 794 yards of offense (480 rushing, 314 receiving) and 63 tackles, six interceptions, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries on defense. He also was a track athlete that was a state qualifier in the hurdles and he helped Culver to the state championship in Class 3A in 2017-18. The next season he was a state runner-up to a young Trey Kaufman-Renn.
Mull has what you want in a walk-on for them to eventually see the field. He has solid, multi-sport athleticism, and that will do him well.
