Offensive lineman Charles Allen committed to Purdue during an unofficial visit Tuesday, bringing the Boilermakers to six commitments now in the span of eight days.
"The visit was amazing," Allen said. "It was way more than I expected. It was how great the coaches there were. I felt very at home there."
That being said, Allen added, he'd made up his mind several weeks ago about Purdue.
"I just had to make sure on the visit," he said.
The 6-foot-3, 300-pound versatile lineman from Louisville Doss committed to Purdue over Miami (Ohio) and many others, doing so believing offers from Syracuse, Kentucky and Louisville might be forthcoming, he said.
The Rivals.com three-star prospect said he can play any offensive line position, but figures to start off at guard or center.
"I can play all three positions, center, guard and tackle," Allen said. "Unless I get any taller from here until I start playing (at Purdue), at my size at 6-3, 300, I'll probably more likely be a guard or a center."
"I have quick feet and I'm very agile for my size," Allen said. "My arms are long and I know how to stretch to block the man in front of me. I think I have great punch, I get off the ball well and I think I'm just a good player."
Purdue seemed drawn to Allen's intangibles, as well.
"They said they love my character and like my work ethic," Allen said. "They came to some of my practices and saw my passion for the game, how hard I work and my competitiveness."
Allen was one of two offered unofficial visitors for Purdue on campus Tuesday, joining fellow Kentuckian Terez Traynor.
Allen joins defensive back prospect Kadin Smith as Purdue commitments to this point from Brohm's native Louisville, a city that figures to be a prime recruiting territory for the Boilermakers now and in years to come.
He's Purdue's first commitment on the offensive line, where it might be primed for more early commitments, with offered tackle targets Will Bramel, Grant Norton and Eric Miller all working toward early decisions.
