Pam Stackhouse is entering her seventh season at Purdue. The veteran assistant coach is responsible for a variety of duties on and off the court. She coaches the guards and coordinates the recruiting of high school freshmen and sophomores. In addition, Stackhouse is in charge of scheduling, team travel and serves as the liaison with the team?s academic services staff.
Two years ago Stackhouse was named one of the top assistant coaches in the country by the Women's Basketball Journal for her often unnoticed efforts in helping Purdue build early relationships with some of the nation's top young high school players. In her five years in West Lafayette, the Boilermakers own a 152-43 record (.779 winning percentage).
Stackhouse has been a part of four Big Ten regular-season championships (1997, '99, 2001, '02), three Big Ten Tournament titles (1998, '99 and 2000), a national championship (1999) and an NCAA runner-up finish (2001).
Stackhouse came to Purdue after coaching at Louisiana Tech during the 1995-96 season. Her duties with the Lady Techsters included recruiting and scouting, as well as on-the-floor coaching and a variety of administrative responsibilities. With Stackhouse's help, the Lady Techsters were 31-2, won the Sun Belt Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. They were ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press poll for 15 of 18 weeks. The four previous years, Stackhouse worked in Louisiana Tech's academic advising center. Her efforts helped Lousiana Tech's student-athletes own one of the best graduation rates in the Sun Belt Conference. In addition, Stackhouse worked the Lady Techsters' basketball camps.
"I have known Stack for a long time and I am so thankful to have her on my staff," Coach Kristy Curry said. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to excellence to the program. She relates so well to our players on and off the court and has a tremendous amount of loyalty to Purdue."
Prior to arriving at Louisiana Tech, Stackhouse gained four years of coaching experience at Mermentau Junior High School in Louisiana from 1981-85.
The 39-year-old Stackhouse is a 1991 graduate of Louisiana Tech with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. She received her master's in counseling from Louisiana Tech in 1993. Stackhouse is a native of Jennings, La. Her interests include golf, reading, music, running, outdoor activities and spending time with her 5-year-old Yorkshire terrier, Zach.
