Purdue's on the board at running back for its 2018 class, as Georgia's Clay Harris has committed to the Boilermakers following a weekend camp appearance and recruiting visit.
"The coaches show me a lot of love and support ever since they offered me in the spring," Harris said Saturday night. "I felt like I was part of the family already."
And so 5-foot-11, 205-pound Norcross High School star visited Purdue this weekend expecting to commit, doing so over offers from Florida International, Western Kentucky and others and interest from Wake Forest.
Though Purdue had offered in the spring, Harris cemented its opinion of him with a strong showing at its camp Friday night, running a 4.55 40-yard dash at 205 pounds and excelling in receiving drills in particular.
Harris is the first running back to commit to Jeff Brohm-led Purdue.
"He was pretty excited about it," Harris said, "especially after seeing me at the camp. He said I did a good job.
"They like how I run, how physical I am, how I run through contact."
Harris said Purdue told him it plans to take two running backs in its 2018 class after not taking one in the 2017 class.
"I saw that as a pretty good opportunity to maybe get on the field early," he said.
