The following is our Report Card for Purdue’s game Saturday, a 31-24 win over Indiana
Passing offense
As it turned out, Purdue needed its passing game only to be a counterbalance to the rushing attack.
And it was.
Elijah Sindelar finished with 159 yards passing with two touchdowns and no turnovers, hitting on 15-of-29 passes. He was efficient, hitting the routine throws while mixing in the highlight-worthy. His 20-yard pass late in the third quarter over the middle to Cole Herdman was a beauty, finding the tight end when he was blanketed by a defender. And Sindelar continues to have a connection with Anthony Mahoungou, finding the senior wide receiver twice down the left sideline.
The second, a 49-yard touchdown, was pinpoint accurate, with Mahoungou snatching it with two hands — he's had a tendency over the years to let passes get on his body — then racing for the score just before halftime. It was an early back-breaker, one of a few, against the Hoosiers.
