Following is report card following Purdue's 38-35 win over Arizona at the Foster Farms Bowl:
Passing offense
Elijah Sindelar was throwing laser beams in the first half.
It was impressive. Particularly so because the recipients were largely Anthony Mahoungou and Gregory Phillips, the latter not as much a surprise as a shock. The senior had seen his reps down significantly in recent weeks, as Purdue turned to Jarrett Burgess and Isaac Zico, but against Arizona, he was the man.
And it changed the offense.
Phillips could work the intermediate routes, and turn those into big plays, like on his two touchdown catches, while Mahoungou occupied the deep left. With the running game and tight ends, it was a perfect combination that proved hard to stop, and was a glimpse of what Purdue hopes to be in the future.
